MANILA: 13 July 2010 — The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) declared 2011, in its 18 July 2010 meeting, to be the Year of Youth in the Philippines. Upon the request of the FIN Province, in coordination with the FIS, the Year of Youth in the country begins on 16 December 2010, the first day of the nation’s novena dawn masses in preparation for Christmas. This Philippine tradition called the “misa de gallo” is meant “to preserve the Catholic faith” in this largely Catholic country in Asia, and the first day of these novena masses is dedicated for the intention of the evangelization of youth.
In their letter of request to the bishops, FIN mentioned the visit of the casket of St. John Bosco to FIS (5-22 Dec) and to FIN (23 Dec-15 Jan) as a reason to begin the year of youth at the start of the liturgical year, not the civil or school year. The bishops indeed recognized this visit of “the father and teacher of youth” as a “providential opportunity.”
While this provides an opportunity for FIN and FIS to make known the person and the mission of St. John Bosco to the larger church and society, the responsibility for the evangelization of the youth of the Philippines becomes for the confreres now much wider than those of their own educative-pastoral communities.

September 28, 2009

Dear Friends,

Peace and blessings!

As we follow the recent turn of events, we realize the magnitude of the damage done by the recent typhoon Ondoy. We were not spared from the damage done by the typhoon to our persons and our properties. At the same time, we are grateful for the blessings we have received from the Lord despite all these. However, there is still much to be done for many of our people who are suffering and in need.

We can do something in order to help. The Salesian Commission on Youth Ministry with the Salesian Lay Volunteer Movement requests the following:

food (ready to eat canned food, bottled water, ready to drink milk, clothes, blanket)

temporary shelter (how many can you accommodate and how long)

volunteers (how many and for how long)

transportation

cash donation:

Account name: Salesian Missions Inc.
Account number: 023-23093261
Bank: BPI Legaspi – Amorsolo Branch
Fax Deposit Slip to: +6328924787

You can drop off your donation at CYM Office, 3/F St. John Bosco Parish Building, Amorsolo St. corner Pasay Road, Makati City.

You can contact us at the telephone/cell phone numbers mentioned below or you can contact me personally at +639177930112

We are also networking with other church and government agencies for providing relief goods and for volunteer work for whatever assistance they need (repacking relief goods, etc.).

Let us continue to ask Mary Help of Christians’ maternal care and protection for us and our loved ones. God bless you and your loved ones!

At long last, after more than a month of inactivity, DB Seminary is back online (not this website but the seminary itself). Due to some technical problems that we knew so little about, the seminary has been practically cut-off from the cyberworld. Thus, there were no updates to this site. In the coming days (hopefully by next week) we will be catching up with you.

Some fast news: Yesterday we started our 2-day Community Days Celebration. Today, being Fr. Rolo Alcasid, SDB’s (our Rector) birthday, there will be a solemn mass followed by a dinner program. On Sunday, we will be opening our intramurals dubbed “Hot Shots.” Being a visiting Sunday, our visiting family and friends will be able to witness the opening rites plus our special presentation.

The line “Bakit ang ina, kahit ibigay mo na ang lahat, hindi ka pa rin matatawag na mabuting ina” is contradicted by the scene where Mary and John were at the foot of the cross. There, Jesus said to Mary and John: “Woman, behold your son, Son behold your mother” which was an invitation of Jesus to Mary to be the mother of all represented by John.

When this happened at the foot of the cross, I believe that what Christ was trying to say was that He was replaced as the son and we became sons of Mary which was the greatest offering of Mary at her Son’s passion.

When Mary was asked by her son, she did not turn back and said “I don’t like” but instead she made her home with John after Jesus was buried. Mary gave everything to John as she had given to her only Son. She treated John as her son and she treats us in our everyday life as sons because Mary’s greatest offering for her Son was to accept his invitation to be the mother of all.

She became the mother of all because she took everyone of us in her heart because she believed that being the mother of God she could be the perfect and the greatest mother of all.

Mary loved Jesus so much that no earthly thing could replace him. Mary’s great act of faith was to see Jesus in each one of us and to help each one of us in our journey to become more and more like Jesus. This was her offering at the passion.

As I end my sermonette, let me share with you a poem entitled “The Great Mother of All.”

THE GREAT MOTHER OF ALL

The woman behind the door

Is my great mother of all.

My mother who lights up my way

That I may grow among the gray

To stay always at my back

To support me when it’s dark

To give hope when I die

Especially in my lie

To give faith in my unbelief

Especially when I don’t live

To give charity when I’m in love

Especially when I am unloved

She was invited by Jesus

To be my great mother at all

Mary my great mother

The mother of ALL

“Do whatever He tells you.” These were the words of Mary to the servants of the wedding feast at Cana. Completely placing her trust in her son, Jesus performed His first miracle in His public ministry at the wedding feast, wherein water turned into wine. Jesus listened to her then as He does now. Thanks to the intervention of Mary, the first among believers.

God loves to raise the lowly – those who seem to be unimportant. And so He chose as His mother, a simple peasant virgin from the little town of Nazareth.

It was not only a little town, an obscure town; it was rated very low by the Jews. Nathaniel said to Philip: “Can any good come out of Nazareth?”

The Virgin Mary came from Nazareth.

The angel Gabriel spoke to her in the word that the eternal Father Himself had chosen “Hail Mary, full of grace!”

When Mary said “Yes”, by the power of the Holy Spirit she conceived the Son of God, Emmanuel, God with us. This was the central moment in the history of the world when God became man in the womb of His mother.

Just as she said “Yes” to the will of God, she also said “Yes” to accept the pain and sufferings she would later encounter, when her son would die in order to save man. “It has begun Lord. So be it.” When Jesus was hanging on the cross, He said to His mother “Woman, behold your son.” And he said to His beloved disciple “Behold your mother.” And from that moment on, Mary was given to us as our mother: to love all people – St. John and every other human being – in the same way she loved her only son in His humanity.

Today, she cradles us in her arms just as she cradled the baby in the stable at Bethlehem, just as she cradled her son at the foot of the cross on Calvary. Amidst all the sickness and death, Mary is calling us closer to her son by telling us to “Do whatever He tells you.”

A mother lost her son in the middle of the temple. She looks for him everywhere in the temple. She said,” Here is my son.” She felt very happy after finding her son. This mother was Mary. Mama Mary the mother of all the children loves us very much. Even though we hurt her, she still forgives us, without looking at those mistakes.

When Jesus was twelve years old, Mama Mary lost him in the temple. She looks for Jesus for almost three days not knowing where exactly he is. This simply shows us the patience out of love. A worry that all mothers feel whenever there children is lost. Even though how big is the place, Mama Mary did not take it as a hindrance to find Jesus.

“Where are you my son?” A question formed because of the worry of love. Mama Mary felt very uneasy knowing that her son was not with them. This worry brought her to sadness. A sadness that shows true love, love that brings accumulation to all the humanity.

“Here you are my beloved son” words of gladness and joy out of love. Mary was very happy when she saw her son. She really hugs her son with love-a hug that embraces the people of God.

“Why did you done this to us, we are worry about you.” a question of disciplined out of love. Mama Mary would like to tell Jesus that he gave them much worry. When she found her son he would like to embrace him-which is also embraces the whole world. This worry of Mary intends Jesus to be worry about our soul.

“Why are you looking at me, don’t you know that I am in the house of my Father.” an answer of Jesus to Mama Mary that shows her understanding out of love. Understanding that let her son realize the love of her mother towards him-an understanding that leads Jesus to save us from evil.

Love out of love, Mary loves her son very much that also encourage us to do so. This is the offering of Mary to us.

I would like to give a short presentation and I hope that you will like it. I would like to ask a favor to all of you. Please repeat after me, this song is dedicated to my/our mother. Mama Mary our mother thank you for your love and care. I love you very much.
